Buildings, happenings: St. Michael's ruined church from the
15th century and the new church from the year 1839. In Pälkäne
you'll find charming sceneries, peaceful nature, friendly people and nice
little cultural and water sport happenings. For more information please
contact the local Tourist information.
Nature and other activities: The River Kostianvirta in the center
of Pälkäne: the birth of the river in 1604 was a major incident
in the natural history of the area, as the waters of the Lake Pälkänevesi
in the north forged their way down into the Lake Mallasvesi in the south.
Grand ridge sceneries are typical of Pälkäne: the most spectacular
is the Sydänharju Ridge with its deep caves (the deepest 30 meters)
formed by the ice age. For an independent hiker, a tour in the Laippa wilderness
offers magnificient natural experiences. The lakes have wonderful routes
for rowing ang canoeing. Also available: slalom skiing, cross-country skiing,
speed skating, riding, tennis, swimming and other water sports.
Products of Pälkäne: There is nothing like the taste of
fresh Finnish strawberries! There are also numerous farms selling biodynamic
vegetables. A nice present to take with you back home: the local sweet-sour
rye bread, or currant wine or other berry wines from the Rönnvik vineyard;
there's a shop in connection with the vineyard. There's also a factory
shop of Vendi Oy selling high-quality knitwear.
