School Health Care

Health Care at Pälkäne High School

Nurse availability at the school:
Monday: 08:20 - 15:00
Tuesday: 08:20 - 15:00
Wednesday: 08:20 - 15:00
Thurday: NOT AVAILABLE
Friday: 08:20 - 14:00

Katariina Mäkipere, the school doctor, is also available on Wednesdays from 08:20 - 11:00 - please book an appointment with the office of the school nurse.

The school nurse operates a drop-in service from 10:00 - 11:00 on Monday, Tuesday and Friday, where a student can visit without an appointment. At all other times, the nurse is usually busy with pre-booked medical examinations, and these appointments should be booked in advance.

In the event of an accident, illness or other acute medical condition, the student should advise their teacher and go immediately to the nursing staff for evaluation and treatment. If necessary, they may go directly to the health centre, or even request an ambulance.

If a student appears unwell during the school day, such as with a basic fever, runny nose or cough, the teacher can send them home to rest without the need for a visit to the school nurse. If it looks more serious, and the nurse is unavailable, the student may be sent to health centre for further evaluation.

Health Checks

Upper secondary school: Year 7 (basic check-up), Year 8 (extensive health check + NTT), Year 9 (basic check-up)
High school: Year 1 (basic check-up), Year 2 (boys - basic check-up / girls - doctor's visit)

The National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) collects information on school health care as part of the check-up system. This has helped increase the number of health inspections by school nurses, and helped focus preventive health inspections and improve overall nursing care.
